Details
Originally built by Ike Warren in Eden in the late 1930's as a commercial fishing boat, "Alathea" was fully re-built as a sailing vessel in the early 2000's. Set up as a gaff-rigged schooner, she is heavily constructed in spotted gum planking with substantial scantlings and several full length stringers. Massive kneees cut from single peices of timber complete the picture of a super-strong and beautiful vessel. The rebuild included the addition of a full length 4 tonne lead slipper to the keel to balance the new rig. Auxilliary power is provided by a Cummins 4BT 100 hp main engine and an Onan diesel driving a 7.5 KVA generator. There is also a large array of batteries, solar charging, shore power and a large capacity inverter.
Accommodation includes a double cabin and 2 single berths, forward hot shower and head, and mid-ships saloon with galley, chart table and good sized dinette. "Alathea" comes with well documented history including a good photographic record of her amazing reconstruction. Reluctant vendors have reached the age and stage where she has become a handful. New owners will be rewarded with a beautiful piece of history and craftsmanship, as well as a strong and capable sea-going yacht.
