Australian designed, Australian built.
A unique custom designed and built yacht. Specifically designed by John King for Kanga Birtles to compete in 2 handed ocean racing.
The pedigree of the this yacht is unmistakable. She has a 50% ballast ratio and so is easily handled by 2 people with no need to "sit on the rail" to keep her upright. She is easily sailed with one or two friends. She is fast and dry, sprightly and rewarding to sail.

The people: John King (worked alongside Ben Lexcen on Australia 2, many original designs to his name)
Kanga Birtles owner and founder of Jarkan Yachts in Nowra (World recognized Seaman and master Boat Builder)

The Jarkan 39' was built to race. The Jarkan 12.5 was developed from this design, and has exactly the same water plane (shape where the boat enters the water, but longer overhangs and fuller hull to carry more weight) as Toccata.
Toccata has competed in the Sydney to Auckland two handed race. This latter race included 5 days in cyclone Bola, a 75 knot cyclone, during this race "in some of the steepest seas I've seen" (from Kanga) she suffered a knockdown and self righted exactly as designed. Notably she won her division.
She is setup for 2 handed management with all halyards and reef points leading back to the cockpit.

Toccata has raced in Sydney Adelaide and Perth, more recently on the Gippsland Lakes.

The hard work has been done on this yacht. Deck repainted, new rudder, new winches. The bespoke stainless steel fittings, cleats, tiller are works of art.

Note; cushions with new fabric for saloon seats/bunks and forecabin v berth.

Toccata is a delight to sail.
She can be handled like a large dinghy, tacking with the windshifts, and yet handles waves and swells as only a properly designed sea going vessel can. She is immensely strong yet light and responsive.
