Details
"Wanderer" could be described as an historic icon of the Gippsland Lakes, a magnificent fan-tailed and straight stemmed pleasure craft, launched in 1883 as a gaff-rigged sailing vessel and later converted to motor boat. Originally built by WB Thomson in Bairnsdale, she remained in the Thomson family for 3 generations before being sold in the 1960's. In the early 2000's the great grand-daughter of the builder traced her movements and found her languishing on a property in NSW. "Wanderer" was brought back to the Gippsland Lakes and a full reconstruction was undertaken by Frecheville Heaney Boat Builders. This was completed in 2003 and to this day "Wanderer" remains in the caring hands of her builder's family, and resides within a few hundred metres of where she was first launched 140 years ago. Her construction is in full length NZ Kauri planking with red gum keel and stem.
Powered by a Lombardini 20 hp diesel with approx 600 hours use, "Wanderer" continues to be maintained to the level she deserves, and has recently been slipped and recoated (June 2023). Her beautiful lines are admired from every angle and everywhere she ventures.
Detailed history, photos and documents available on request.
It is with great pride and reluctance that "Wanderer" is offered for sale.
