35' Pompei pleasure boat
Built as a tough working scallop boat by The Pompei brothers for their own use. This unique boat has had a total and complete restoration carried out by a master shipwright.
The rebuild took over 2 years (covid/retirement project) and has resulted in a beautifully restored timber vessel that was created to provide many years of trouble free, low maintenance pleasure.
The original conversion to a pleasure boat was carried out by Pompei brothers in about 1983 including replacement of the engine with a new Ford 120HP diesel. This engine now has approximately 4000 hours and is running like a clock.
The fuel tank is a new Vetus at 140 litres. There is room for more fuel, however the owner likes a regular changeover of fuel and for his current use this quantity is ideal at a usage rate of 7 litres per hour.
The style of the boat has been unchanged but every aspect of the boat has been inspected and restored or replaced with new materials.
The cabin and decks are covered in epoxy resin with double bias cloth and then sprayed in 2 pack polyurethane paint, resulting in a very hardy and long lasting finish. The nonskid areas are finished with Kiwigrip in a soft grey.
The hull has been wooded and had every seam cleaned and recaulked, it is completely watertight. The hull exterior finish is a brush painted finish in keeping with the vessels' age and style.
The antifouling was completely scraped off and the Carboline paint system used right across the painted surfaces of the vessel inside and out (except for the 2 pack which is a Wattyl system)
New windows by Alfab. New hatches by Vetus. Raymarine autopilot with hydraulic steering by Hydrive.
New lead ingots were specially cast for the 2 ton of internal ballast. This feature makes her very sea kindly and stable with a low centre of gravity a feature often overlooked in the current grp range of displacement vessels.
The canoe stern style is not commonly seen these days. The hull is easily driven and rises to a following sea nicely. She has a significant beam providing a stable and large cabin area with wide easily navigated decks. The boat carries her beam well aft leading to a large cockpit easily able to seat 6 people in separate chairs.
She is fitted with substantial mooring bits and fairleads. There is a strong stainless steel anchor roller, holding a Delta Anchor with mixed chain and rope rode.
Great attention to detail has been lavished on this vessel by a fastidious and knowledgeable owner working alongside the shipwright. Premium grade timbers were used. Some of the high level of detail is evident in the photos.
She is presented as a day boat with a minimal fit out. This configuration is very usable or will provide the next owner with a sound basis on which to create their own overnight cruiser.
The boat has a history of extensive use around the Bass Strait islands.
The owner is available to chat about the restoration of the vessel with a genuinely interested buyer and will be only too pleased to assist with a smooth ownership transition. The owner is a serial offender in the boat restoration scene. He is well into the next project and can see that dominating life for the next 12 months, hence "The Vic" is available for purchase. A respectful sale process is sought for this vessel.
Note the restoration cost was approx 2.5 times the asking price. The emphasis was on a beautifully crafted masterpiece showing off the best of Pompei and current shipwright skills. The money was deliberately not spent on bling as that doesn't create a sound, seaworthy comfortable boat.

Tony at Webster Marine was closely involved in The Vic restoration, and can attest to the work carried out.
