Details
This traditionally rigged vessel was built in WA in 1991 by Kurt Stenross using triple diagonal planking and West system method to produce a low maintenance, solid and waterproof hull. Her planks are of Indonesian Nyotah and all other timbers are Western Australian Karri hardwood. She is generously powered (cruising at 5.5 knots going to 7) with a Volvo 3 cylinder 29 hp marine diesel. "Sea Creature" sails like the clappers in light airs under full sail, and carries itself with stability with a judicious use of a combination of sails in heavy seas and strong winds. Her upwind performance is excellent. Reefing points and four sails means there are options for every condition. "Sea Creature" turns tightly and tracks well. It has been superb on the Gippsland Lakes as her draught allows beaching almost anywhere, yet her capacity to embrace fully the heavy conditions of Bass Strait inspires confidence and admiration. Current and previous owners have well and truly proven her resilience and safety during many sailing adventures around Bass Strait and Tasmania, often in tough conditions. Wide, uncluttered decks make her easy to move about. Her interior is cosy and traditional with a double berth forward and 2 decent settee berths. There is basic galley facilities with metho stove and sink/manual water, plus a marine toilet up forward. Recent improvements include a new hard dodger, Raymarine touch-screen plotter/sounder, 3 x new batteries and new running rigging.
